Why do my banana plugs keep breaking off in my titanium deck plates?2025-02-21T15:10:15-05:00

Here are some relevant factors about titanium deck plates:

Users with titanium deck plates won’t experience any corrosion on the receptacles, but banana plugs will likely corrode faster because titanium is more dissimilar from copper (when compared to legacy deck plates and all cable harnesses).
Gen7 Serial Timers use 4.0V and Legacy uses 3.6V. These lower voltages will reduce the rate of galvanic corrosion.
Some galvanic corrosion will still occur even when no voltage is present.

Scoreboard Maintenance2025-01-28T16:44:55-05:00

To protect your scoreboard from potential damage caused by power fluctuations, electrical surges, or lightning strikes, always remove the power supply when the equipment is not in use. This simple step can help prevent costly repairs and ensure the longevity of your scoreboard, safeguarding it from any unexpected electrical issues that may arise during storms or power disruptions.

How should I store start systems and consoles?2025-01-28T16:34:12-05:00

Turn off all equipment with an on/off power switch before storing it. Store the equipment in a dry, secure location to protect it from damage and keep it in good working condition.

How should I store deck cables and back up buttons?2025-01-28T16:29:19-05:00

Rinse all deck cables, backup buttons, and other pool-contact equipment with fresh water. Store them in a dry area where they can fully dry out and remain moisture-free.

How should I store my Touchpads?2025-01-28T16:15:18-05:00

Store your touchpads properly by hanging them on a touchpad caddy. Ensure no cords are trapped between touchpads and avoid prolonged contact with the touchpad face. Choose a storage area that protects them from extreme temperatures and physical damage to keep them in optimal condition.

Deckplate Maintenance2025-01-28T16:06:21-05:00

To keep your deck plate or cable harness connectors in top shape, occasional deep cleaning is essential. Here’s how:

  1. Add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the connector and let it sit for a few minutes to dissolve any corrosion.
  2. Use a folded soft pipe cleaner with a plunging motion to clean inside the connector. Avoid anything abrasive that could scratch the surface.
  3. Rinse the connector with a damp pipe cleaner, then dry it with a clean, dry one, ensuring no fibers are left behind.
  4. Apply a small amount of silicone grease to a clean pipe cleaner and gently coat the inside of the connector.

With these steps, your connectors will stay clean and corrosion-free!

Cable Connector Maintenance2025-01-28T15:59:10-05:00

Want to protect your deck plates and cable harnesses? The solution is refreshingly simple! Just like with banana plugs, a quick freshwater rinse after each use is your best defense against corrosion. Taking these few extra moments to rinse your equipment can save you from costly repairs down the road. Remember – a little splash of prevention keeps your timing system running smoothly!

Banana Plug Maintenance2025-01-28T15:51:18-05:00

Keep your banana plugs in top shape with this simple routine: just give them a quick freshwater rinse after each use – it’s as easy as that! Notice some corrosion starting to build up? Don’t worry – grab an old toothbrush, dip it in some rubbing alcohol, and give those plugs a gentle scrub. This basic care routine is your best defense against serious corrosion issues that might require aggressive cleaning methods. Remember, a little prevention today saves you from bigger headaches tomorrow!

What do I do when my System 6 display won’t turn on?2025-01-28T15:39:57-05:00

The display not turning on is likely due to lack of power.  Make sure to test your power adapter cable and the wall outlet to see if you are getting power output.

My banana plug connections are corroded, what should I do?2025-01-28T11:23:30-05:00

If for some reason your banana plug connections or the banana jacks of the cable harness pods or deck plates. You can do any of these two methods:

Method #1:  Acquire any kind of limescale or calcium buildup, use a diluted (50-50) solution of Lime Away or CLR (calcium-lime-rust) cleaner and a pipe cleaner to remove the buildup:

  1. Dip pipe cleaner folded in half in a diluted solution of Lime Away or CLR cleaner and twist into the socket
  2. Clean thoroughly by rotating the pipe cleaner in the socket.
  3. Flush with plenty of clean, fresh water (not pool water).
  4. Use a clean, dry pipe cleaner to soak up excess water in the socket.
  5. Finally, dab a small amount of dielectric grease into each hole and then work a banana plug in and out to get the grease into each banana jack.
  6. Wipe the excess grease from the banana plug with a clean soft cloth.

Method #2: Acquire our “Strike Hold: Marine” contact cleaner in our Aqua Store and perform the following steps.

  1. Spray onto the surface of the area that is showing corrosion
  2. With a soft bristle brush or pipe cleaner, lightly scrub the area showing the corrosion around the banana plug connector and/or deck harness or plate jack.
  3. Plug the connector into the deck harness or plate socket a few times.
  4. Allow the contact cleaner to sit for a few minutes before wiping it away.  (You may wipe away excess that is not sitting on the corroded area.)

If the following methods do not prove fruitful, replacement banana plugs are available.  However, proper installation and testing are crucial to ensure a reliable fix.

Having us come out for a service call is the best way to resolve the issue. Our experts can replace the banana plugs, test the system for solid connections, and make sure everything is functioning perfectly. This not only ensures your timing system is meet-ready but also gives you peace of mind knowing your equipment won’t fail you when it matters most.

Why loose prongs on a Banana Plug matter?2025-01-28T10:26:27-05:00

When you plug in a connector, you should feel some resistance – that’s those prongs doing their job, creating a secure, reliable connection for transmitting timing data. If your connector slides in too easily it’s usually a red flag that the prongs have either collapsed or broken, which means you’re not getting a crucial solid connection.

This might not seem like a big deal, but in the world of competitive swimming where every millisecond counts, a loose connection can mean missed touches, incorrect times, or system glitches right in the middle of your meet.

The good news is that fixing this issue is pretty straightforward – replacement banana plugs are readily available and easy to install. It’s much better to replace a loose connector than risk timing issues during your next competition.

Why is maintenance on Banana Plugs important to perform?2025-01-28T10:16:48-05:00

Maintenance on banana plugs preserves the vital handshake between your timing equipment – when these connections get dirty or corroded, it’s like trying to have a conversation through a bad phone line. In the fast-paced world of swim meets, where every split second counts, a poor connection can mean missed times, false readings, or even complete system failures. Pool environments are particularly tough on these connectors – all that chlorine, humidity, and constant handling can create buildup that interferes with the electrical connection.

Regular maintenance helps banana plugs last longer, saving you money and hassle in the long run. Just a few minutes of preventive care can save hours of troubleshooting and potential meet delays.
